The weekend……….
Our past weekend was fabulous! We spent a day in Dusseldorf and I shall do a write-up of that part of the trip soon, once I get the pics.
But we had a great time with our friends Shibu and Susan, and their adorable two year old, Jeevan. Shibu has been brought up in Germany, and his parents live in Koeln too. We met Shibu and family through his parents first and then later came to develop a close friendship with them. They first visited us in Nurnberg and then we thought of combining our trip to Dusseldorf with a trip to Koeln as well. Susan cooked up great food, and the second day that we were there, we had a wonderful barbecue session for lunch. Shibu made some pasta salad (lots of mayo went into it) and he grilled some pork meat, to perfection. Susan put together a nice spring salad and we also had some warm garlic bread and some sausages. Wow! R and I were packed!
Before lunch, we all went out for a walk in the Koeln schloss (palace) gardens and took some pictures. R has taken to photography off late. We built up a great appetite, had lunch and then headed out to walk by the Rhine promenade of Koeln. R and myself took a cable car ride over the Rhine, R’s first cable car ride and my second. It was so beautiful, and though I was a little nervous, the experience was exhilarating. We were able to pass over one of the Rhine bridges , and view the famous Dom from afar.
The weather was brilliant……sunny, shady, cool, crisp! After the ride, we bought some icec-cream, walked a bit more and then came back home.
Jeevan was so well-behaved and so energetic throughout. We felt sorry that he was unable to take the train ride in the park, he wanted it so bad and we missed the last train. Still, he was sweet about it and did not make a fuss at all.
His baby-German is so cute, and we learned quite a number of works from him.
The next day, we had a wonderful hearty breakfast, with wurst, cheese, a variety of Brotchen (Kurbiskorn, Mehrkorn, Rosenbrotche, etc), uppumav and coconut chutney, and some wonderful coffee and tea. I wish every weekend was like this past one!
R and I had to catch a train back to Nurnberg from Koeln at 12:00 pm and so we bid a sad good-bye to our friends and took the EC (euro-city) train back home. The ride back was quiet, and we slept some of the way.
